When Nintendo first discusses their latest console, they named it as Nintendo Revolution - since the console will bring a huge revolution to how games are played. No more buttons. Actions are taking over the gaming world!!
However, they decided that Revolution is just plain too long and hard to be pronounced by non-English speakers. So, they changed it to Wii, which originated from the word “We”. “We” means us, people, a lot of people - this is to signify that many people can play Wii together. The 2 letter i’s are the symbol of 2 people inviting others to play together.
That’s how the Nintendo Wii is born. Nice, eh?
