Nintendo Wii Targets New People

With the emerging of Nintendo Wii, Nintendo hoped to target a wider demographic for the latest, most popular console. They want to target and bring new people into the gaming market, thus, making the gaming market bigger, increasing demands for gaming supplies.

Satoru Iwata at a press conference said “We’re not thinking about fighting Sony, but about how many people we can get to play games. The thing we’re thinking about most is not portable systems, consoles, and so forth, but that we want to get new people playing games.”

This target has been mainly portrayed in television advertisements in North America where a lot of people from different age groups are shown to be enjoying Nintendo Wii. Nintendo uses the slogan “Wii would like to play” and also “Experience a new way to play. Nintendo has allocated over US$200 Million throughout the first year the game console coming out to create hype.

The advertising succeeded and until now, the demand for Nintendo Wii outpaces the supply available, thus, making Nintendo Wii console often backordered in stores.
